Community Gallery Exhibit: First Ascents, Patrick Hannigan
Aug 6–Sept 17. Opening Reception Sat, Aug 6, 5-7pm, 2022
A tribute to mountaineer Fred Beckey, Patrick Hannigan explores his legacy and adventures in the North Cascades Washington Pass using retired climbing gear, re-purposed, and natural materials.
Fred Beckey dedicated his life to climbing un-climbed peaks and routes across North America. But the North Cascades had a place in his heart: his three-volume Cascade Alpine Guide is an encyclopedic love letter to the range. In First Ascents, Patrick Hannigan explores Beckey’s legacy around Washington Pass, where Beckey first climbed, named, or catalogued many of the most striking features from the Early Winters Spires, to the towers of Vasiliki Ridge. Hannigan will examine the enduring connection between a unique place and the singular character that was Fred Beckey.
In the Main Gallery, Happiness Found: Dan Brown and Friends will take place at the same time. CLICK HERE for information.
