Gems and Geology Holiday Gift Show
Through Jan 9, 2021
Our Earth is full of a myriad of hidden treasures just beneath our feet. Throughout the millennia, very slow but constant changes in the earth’s crust and mantle produce the world’s most precious natural works of art in macro (mountainous and rock formations in our landscape) as well as micro (gemstones). While human intervention is often needed to bring out some of that intrinsic beauty, there still remains the mystery and wonder in each and every stone. This show seeks to mesmerize, capture the imagination, and inform about the geological, gem, mineral, fossil, and jewelry world. Artists capture the magic of underground gem wonders as well as the majesty of the above ground rocky landscape. We hope to exhibit both 2D works representing rocky formations as well as 3D works of custom cut faceted gemstones, cabochons, and jewelry featuring precious and semi-precious gemstones. We would like to offer the opportunity for jewelers in the exhibit to create custom jewelry items from loose gemstones purchased. (Jewelry by Kathryn Skinner.)
Exhibit curators Joanne Marracci and Sarah Jo Lighner.
