Jeff Winslow: Works On Paper at True North Letterpress

Exhibit of late artist Jeff Winslow featured at True North Letterpress in September

Opening Friday, September 13th 4-7pm

On view Sept 13th-Oct 31st, 2024

The exhibit will feature artwork made in recent years by late Twisp artist Jeff Winslow.

Viewing Jeff Winslow’s art is akin to taking a mystery taxi to a city where you’ve never been. Color, pattern, objects floating dream-like are telling stories of triumph, defeat, desolation, and abundance. Motifs of a life lived appear and re-appear seemingly with their own will and are woven humorously into Jeff’s painted storylines.
The upcoming exhibit features works on paper which were created in recent years while the artist was redefining his relationship with how he created. In these months he worked to find balance between a practice of belabored creativity and his well-being, and he achieved it. During this time the artist also grappled with major shifts in perception of image and color as his eyesight progressively left him.

During a studio visit to see these new works the artist described them as ‘child’s play’, meaning that he was allowing himself a new freedom to paint without expectation of result. Within the limitations and new discoveries this final body of work truly sings.
