Rich’s love of nature and archaeology comes through in these vibrant oil works on canvas. He is often challenged and inspired to capture the mysterious, elusive changes in light, shadow and the resultant color changes. The simple impression one gets from an eyeful of scenery is interesting to capture with as little detail as possible.Rich believes that landscape painting is interpretive, and requires some imagination, but, archaeology provides enormously fewer facts and this creates an almost mystical need for our interpretation. He feels a call to incorporate the two in some artistic way.
